First things first, if they look the same to the average user, then what actually are the differences between these two types of profiles, and how does the business account create more of a Pinterest marketing user base?
Before you even get started with using Pinterest for your own use or for that of your business, you have to be aware of the Terms of Service, and this has recently been updated for business account holders. What this outlines is that to use an account for commercial purposes, for example to market a product or create sales-style blogs that point towards an e-commerce or service website, you must operate under a business account with business-specific terms of service.
In short, you don’t have much of a choice if your Pinterest marketing all comes down to commercial gain.
2. Business Username
Another key difference between Pinterest business profiles and personal profiles is the ability to use your business name as your username. This may sound small and pretty insignificant, but actually when it comes to using your Pinterest for business purposes and to grow your brand, the more airspace you can give your business name the better. How to set up a business profile?
So, how do you set up a business profile?
This will depend on if you are already engaging in Pinterest marketing through an existing account, or if you are a completely new user. As an initial aid to your decision, look at your existing profile (if you have one) and establish its importance for your business.
Are you already being followed by lots of users that you consider to sit within your target audience?
Does your existing account already boast a heavy focus on your business, with specific Pins and boards?
If the answers to the above are yes, you most likely do want to stick with your existing profile and simply convert it into a Pinterest for business account.
Converting your personal profile to a business account is super easy- it’s literally a big red button in the backend of your account, which allows you to convert your profile type. Once you click on this button, you will be asked to modify your account details – mainly editing your account and contact name, your ‘About You’ information, adding a website link and informing Pinterest of your area of business. Oh, and don’t forget those Terms of Service we discussed earlier!
Alternatively, if you are setting up a new account, simply ensure on the registration page that you are signing up for a business account rather than an average user account. From there, just follow the steps as you go – and make sure to enter your business name when it asks for your name.
